Udderbelly The South Bank Centre is planning to bring Udderbelly to Hungerford Car Park in the summer. The planning application will be submitted on 6 March and the licence application will follow shortly.
Udderbelly is a giant upside down purple cow containing an exhibition space holding up to 1,000 people. It will be run by young people for a family audience and will hold lower-noise events such as circus acts until 9pm. Milkshakes, cow-related merchandise and alcohol will be available for sale. The aim is to encourage young people to participate in the arts.
Waterloo City Square The winning designer for Waterloo City Square will be announced on Tuesday 10 March, with work to commence as funding becomes available. Kings Plaza, between Kings College and the IMAX, has already been completed.
Lower Marsh SBEG has been appointed to project manage improvements to Lower Marsh. A private company acting as a community interest group will be appointed to run an improved street market. The design team tender process begins in April with concepts consultation this summer and work planned to begin in October. Funding will be taken from Section 106 funding.
Queens Walk Network Rail is planning to close the section of Queens Walk under Blackfriars Bridge while it improves the station. The path will be diverted along Marigold Alley and will reopen in Summer 2010.
Legible London Legible London is a TfL initiative to improve signage around London and encourage walking. The South Bank has been chosen to pilot the new signage, which is currently being tested on Bond Street.
London Cycle Hire The Mayor of London has made 24 hour cycle hire a priority scheme for London. The plan is to bring in a subscription or registration service enabling people to use Oyster cards to hire cycles in Zone 1. 6,000 cycles and 10,000 dropping-off spots will be installed in time for the May 2010 launch. The average bay will hold 28 bikes, be on a wide pavement and take up as much room as four or five parking bays.
Imperial War Museum The gardens near the Imperial War Museum will be hosting a family fun day in June to celebrate 75 years since the gardens were granted to the women and children of Lambeth.
London Bridge Festival 10-25 July will London Bridge Festival, a new arts festival with 'More Fringe than Boris'.
The Fire Station The Fire Station next to Waterloo Station has had its licence for pavement drinking revoked following a serious incident and persistent breaches of its licence conditions.
