Following a campaign by CHORA, Lambeth Council has ordered the new foodstore on the corner of York Road and Chicheley Street to remove its external lighting. The foodstore must remove the offending lights by the middle of February.
Richard Limbrick, council Enforcement Officer said: "We have come to the conclusion that in this particular case [the lights] are development and will require planning permission.
"I believe that the fittings and the resultant illumination are contrary to adopted council policy and consequently the owner of the shop unit and the manager of the shop have been given until the middle of February 2009 to remove the light fittings from the Chicheley Street and York Road elevations of the shop front. If the matter cannot be resolved informally, the council will consider the expediency of serving a formal notice on the interested parties requiring the removal of the light fittings."
This is a victory for CHORA, which continues to work with the Council to maintain the quality of our environment.
