Lambeth Planning Public Consultation Print E-mail
    06 Jan 2009
Your opportunity to comment on plans to redevelop the Waterloo area. DEADLINE 12 January.

The Lambeth Planning Public Consultation has recently been drawn to the attention of CHORA. We have until mid-January to comment on the proposals to redevelop the Waterloo area.

    In brief, these proposals include:

    • Ensuring tall buildings will be grouped around Waterloo Station
    • Ensuring development brings benefits to the communities in and around Waterloo
    • Pooling financial resources for street and community facility improvements
    • Increasing capacity at Waterloo Station
    • Improving public spaces and streets in Waterloo
    • Improving cultural facilities contributing to the Cultural City status of London
    • Creating a mixed use area as a central London office location as well as increasing housing and the range of shops and facilities on offer
    • Improving links from Waterloo Station to the South Bank
    • Redeveloping Elizabeth House to create new street level connections between the station and York Road
    • Creating a city square around the BFI IMAX cinema and in front of Waterloo Station
    • Building a new swimming pool and indoor sports facility as part of the (approved) Doon Street, Coin Street Community Builders development
    • Replacing the existing temporary library facility on Lower Marsh with a permanent home
    • More schools
    • More recreation facilities
    • Improving Waterloo Station to allow for longer trains
    • Retaining the Shell Centre tower but redeveloping the rest of the site to improve links between York Road and Hungerford Bridge
    • Extending Jubilee Gardens over Hungerford Car Park to create a larger park, possibly by developing a new BFI film centre on part of the site along the railway viaduct
    • Redeveloping Elizabeth House into three new taller blocks with new housing and creating new street level pedestrian links between York Road and the station.

County Hall was accidentally excluded from the official consultation but has been given until the middle of January to submit our views. In order to enable me to compile responses and produce a written reply, I will need to receive your views by 12 January.
